Trends and Targets for 26/06/2018

BARCLAYS (LSE:BARC) The UK Retail banks are like one of these bits of hard skin alongside a finger nail, tantalising and almost demanding attention every now and then. Of course, the experience usually culminates on some brief agony, along with a mental note never to do it again. Until, of course, the next time the opportunity arises. We keep feeling an equal need to revisit the UK retail banks.

Barclays share price is now emulating that little bit of finger (or nail), appearing attractive as everyone knows it’s not going to fall below 190p. Like the bit of nail, it’s just hanging there saying “you know you want to!”

What could go wrong?

In the case of Barclays, quite a lot. Despite the chart visuals suggesting the illusory concept of “resistance” exists at 190p, we have some considerable doubts. If we shuffle the numbers slightly, thanks to some opening second price gaps, the situation now is of trouble below a mid-price of 188.5p allowing the share price to wither somewhat with an initial drop target at 184.5p, this probably being capable of some sort of fake bounce. The real hustle begins when 184.5 breaks as continued reversal toward 174p looks very possible.

Unfortunately, this is a point where we need “get real” as the big picture magnetic attraction shall be regarded as a hopeful bottom at 157p.

To get out the immediate drop zone, the price need only accelerate beyond 203.5p. For now, we really lack optimism.

Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
