Trends and Targets for 24/08/2018

FTSE FOR FRIDAY (FTSE:UKX #DAX #NK225 ) The market is on the edge of becoming slightly scary. Then again, it always is. Conversely, with shares we generally lean to optimism, whereas with the #FTSE, expecting the worst rarely disappoints – eventually!

However, like a visit to the dentist which keeps being cancelled, the FTSE has so far resolutely failed to actually fall off a cliff with, perhaps, The White Cliffs of Dover & Brexit waiting to provoke the perfect metaphor. The problem, if we could call it such, is the FTSE now trades in “Higher High” territory and this tends make drops underperform. A perfect instance is shaping up for Friday.

In the event the FTSE manages trade below just 7545 points, it enters a phase where weakness to an initial 7490 looks possible. If broken, our secondary ambition calculates at 7450 points. If triggered, stop is at 7585 points, a healthy risk/reward scenario. But the problem is, unless the market intends “get real” about reversal, any weakness is liable to fade out before 7490, simply due to the Big Picture upward strengths.

However, should the index decide to opt messing about, instead giving some upward strength, movement now above 7605 should prove capable of triggering near term growth to 7623 points, a fairly tame ambition. If exceeded, 7653 looks like a viable secondary. If triggered, stop is a little wide at 7556 points.

Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
