Trends and Targets for 17/08/2018

FTSE FOR FRIDAY (FTSE:UKX) We missed last weeks “FTSE” article, due entirely to human error. Or to express it correctly, someone forgot what day of the week it was! However, it’s time for another stab at our popular Friday thing.

Pretty broadly speaking, the UK index continues to feel rather limp and now, it appears below 7497 should anticipate some travel down to an initial 7416 points. And if broken, secondary calculates at 7360 points. While there was the appearance of effort being employed to stop the drop during Thursday, the reality is the index needs above 7565 to reduce the drop prospects on the immediate cycle.

In normal circumstances, we’d be comfortable the market is finally about to execute its drop to 7360 but there’s a bit of a question mark hovering above the argument. Perhaps it’s a new thing for August but markets and shares are tending display some strange movement characteristics and when we apply them to the FTSE, the near term scenario appears to be of growth bettering 7565 wanting to attempt an initial 7587 points. If bettered, secondary calculates at 7624 points.

Neither ambition is particularly life changing but the stop can be 7529 at its tightest, giving a fairly reasonable risk/reward balance.

Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
