Trends and Targets for 3/08/2018

FTSE FOR FRIDAY #FTSE #GOLD #CAC40 A trip to the mainland, discovering in the process Scots had forgotten how to drive in rain, was marred when uplifting one of the dogs from the Pet Hospital. A Golden Retriever looks silly with the back end of her coat shaved bald.

Thursday was “one of these days”, seasoned rather indiscreetly with a FTSE which fell off a cliff while we were cursing incompetent drivers who clearly felt 10 mph was a sensible top speed on a wet and steaming motorway. We were rather surprised when the market opted to bounce from our completely hypothetical 7550 points, the bottom end of this ridiculous straight line the market has been exploring for a couple of months. This time, we’re not entirely convinced the 7550 level shall hold.

Near term, it appears weakness continuing below 7549 should make an attempt at 7471 points. If broken, our secondary calculates at 7420 points.

However, the “thing” about a rangebound market is it’s supposed to bounce from the bottom of the range, so we’d be churlish to ignore the potentials. Near term, movement above 7588 is supposed to reach upward to an initial 7607 points. And if exceeded, our secondary is a rather more interesting 7670 points.

Our suspicion, rather strongly, is of a market about to finally break its rangebound state. It also carries the implication growth achieved at the end of July was indeed a feint, designed to give false confidence.

Our commentary is in two sections. Immediately below are today’s updated comments. If our commentary remains valid, the share can be found in the bottom section which has a RED heading. Hopefully, this will mean you no longer need to flip back through previous reports. HYPERLINKS DISABLED IN THIS VERSION

Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
