Trends and Targets for 2/07/2018

THE #FTSE, THE WIDER MARKET, and fish. Village fetes are sometimes a surprise. A small child approaches, demands you spend 3 quid on 3 green raffle tickets and the incident quickly forgotten. Until the PA system is shouting your dogs name as it has won a prize in the raffle.

A 12kg fresh salmon is rather a big fish and neither Golden Retriever looked inclined to carve the thing, so Saturday evening was consumed watching YouTube videos, sharpening knives, and resolving to never, ever, buy another raffle ticket.

Of course, this has absolutely nothing to do with the markets aside from the obvious – sometimes you can win and generally the source of the win will come as a surprise. Our preference has always been to win smaller, but win consistently.

As for the FTSE, it has come close to exceeding the downtrend since May and rubbishing the prospect of the market hitting 7360 points. The immediate BLUE downtrend is lurking around 7720 currently but we’re going to be cautious here and require the index exceed 7760 before blithely accepting a serious tumble is no longer possible. Should the FTSE wander above 7760, a cycle toward 7860 can be anticipated. And beyond.

However, we’re being cautious, perhaps due to all the negative media regarding World Trade, Trump, Brexit, and village fetes.

The index managed to complete June at 7661 points, now needing below 7574 to continue a drop cycle to 7484 as a major point of interest, somewhere a bounce can be hoped. But should 7484 break, 7360 looks like providing a magnetic compulsion. If hoping for a bounce at 7360, unfortunately a pretty wide 60 point stop looks necessary.

SUCCESS above means both FAST & SLOW targets were met. ‘CESS means just the FAST target met and probably the next time it is exceeded, movement to the SLOW target shall commence.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
