Our internationally famed FTSE for FRIDAY (FTSE:UKX)  trading around 10,831 at time of writing.

Every Friday, through July and August, we’ve been whining about the need for the UK market to actually CLOSE a session above 10,910 points. Rather impressively, the FTSE100 has employed exquisite skill in remaining below our trigger level, certainly managing to sneak above during intraday trade but with remarkable discipline, ensuring each session failed to CLOSE above our trigger level. This has created a situation, where there’s the implicit suggestion closure above 10,910 shall signal a period of positive trade for the FTSE. Visually, what has been created is something we call a Horizontal Trend and generally closure above such a trend line should herald imminent fireworks.

Therefore, from a near term perspective, we’re at the stage of trying to produce target values which should afford the UK market the opportunity to CLOSE above 10,910 points. This being the case, above 10,867 points currently calculates with the potential of a lift to 10,922 points. Despite such a lift intraday, this target level provides nothing new and doesn’t come with an expectation of closure above our trigger level. However, should 10,922 points be exceeded, our “longer term” (or later the same day) secondary calculates at 10,999 points. This should make closure above 10,910 points almost a slam dunk expectation.

Hopefully the current UK Prime Minister hasn’t got any great ideas to surprise the media with. Though we’ve a private suspicion at some point, the idea shall arise of Selling Gibraltar to Spain, the Falklands to Argentina, Northern Ireland to Ireland, and Scotland to Scotland…

Our converse scenario, if things decide to go wrong, suggests weakness below 10,689 risks bringing a visit down to an initial 10,609 points with our secondary, if broken, at 10,509 points and a potential level for a reasonable bounce.  Reversals like this shall illustrate a nasty problem, introducing a third level target – if everything else fails – down at 10,289 points and the potential introduction of a price level which should become a pivot until the end of this year.

Anyway, it’s a Grand Prix weekend, the race from Italy giving sufficient excuse for Carbonara for dinner on Sunday while we analyse just what went wrong with Ferrari this time around! Have a good weekend.

SUCCESS above means both FAST & SLOW targets were met. ‘CESS means just the FAST target met and probably the next time it is exceeded, movement to the SLOW target shall commence.

Our commentary is in two sections. Immediately below are today’s updated comments. If our commentary remains valid, the share can be found in the bottom section which has a RED heading. Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
