Greencore Group PLC (LSE:GNC) trading around 267.40 at time of writing.

Being the largest supplier of pre-packed sandwiches is an odd claim to fame. It’s a field about which we know more than wanted, thanks to owning a bunch of petrol stations in a previous life. In the 1990’s, sandwiches had become a staple in our petrol stations and reliable suppliers were an unknown concept. Product quality was often questionable, our staff asked to open and sample a random sandwich before selling any. This policy led to the sharp exclusion of several suppliers, stale bread and salad which was less than fresh being contract cancelation offenses.

Eventually, a chum who’d previously been a motor manufacturers Scottish manager, somehow decided to change career. After renting an industrial unit, buying all sorts of refrigeration equipment, and some fancy packaging machines, it was clear he was serious about the concept. By the point we sold our petrol stations, he was still providing reliable daily deliveries with his empire expanded across the Glasgow – Edinburgh belt. He had even head hunted two of our staff as managers which was great. It’s funny, nowadays it would probably be an easier business to enter, due to “improvements” in bread technology as the stuff sometimes seems to take an age to go off. This is good news for our family of 5 Ravens, each of which loves our supply of 50p “out of date petrol station bread” loaves. It has been amusing to notice a couple of Robins have started to watch for bread, each doing frantic emergency pecks before a raven appears.

In addition to their skill in making a sandwich, Greencore supply quite a lot of other ‘food to go’ products, along with chilled meals, pizzas, and even quiches. It’s safe to say the writer does not form any part of their target market, thanks to Coeliac disease, and egg allergy, T2 diabetes, and a Shellfish allergy. About the only thing they offer is packaging to play with! (Victoria Wood did a comedy sketch on this subject, blissfully unaware someone in Scotland actually met all the criteria.)

Greencore share price has entered what looks like a happy cycle for the future. It has broken through the immediate 2026 downtrend, it has executed an official Higher High, and now looks poised for movement above 280p to trigger a visit to an initial 297p and a challenge against the downtrend since 2016. Our secondary, should such a level be exceeded, calculates at a longer term 310p. Overall, such a situation would imply a distant Big Picture target of 448p may be exerting a distant attraction.

Should things intend go wrong, an unusual scenario in the face of positive signals, below 263p risks triggering reversal to an initial 243p with our secondary, if broken, at an eventual bottom of 233p. Visually, this sort of thing is unlikely but, of course, this is the UK stock market, always waiting to stab investors in the back!

SUCCESS above means both FAST & SLOW targets were met. ‘CESS means just the FAST target met and probably the next time it is exceeded, movement to the SLOW target shall commence.

Our commentary is in two sections. Immediately below are today’s updated comments. If our commentary remains valid, the share can be found in the bottom section which has a RED heading. Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
