Trends and Targets for 9/07/2018

THE #FTSE (FTSE:UKX) #BRENT #NK225 We remain reticent about the FTSE’s positive chances, despite Hamiltons stonking drive in F1 along with one of the home nations teams apparently doing well in a football tournament. And as for Wimbledon, thankfully good weather continues to provide adequate excuses to utterly ignore it. Our attitude to sport is simple. If it doesn’t have an engine, it’s not a sport.

The current situation with the FTSE remains a bit dodgy as below 7570 now suggests coming weakness to an initial 7496 points with secondary, when broken, down at 7360 points. We would anticipate some sort of bounce at the 7360 level and as the chart shows, the index trend remains safely above the uptrend since the BREXIT vote – now lurking around 7050 points.

For the FTSE to escape the current drop cycle, it need only exceed 7696 points which provides a fairly reasonable Risk/Reward argument.

One curious thing happening with the FTSE is the odd intraday dance during the last week, presenting almost identical a picture to that which we mentioned about the DOW JONES last week. The argument goes along the lines of a suspicion the market is teasing short positions, prior to a surprise upward surge. In this regard, the DOW JONES indeed surged upward and is now teasing the 24,500 level. In the case of the FTSE, this suggests 7696 may provide a guest appearance soon.

What happens if 7696 is bettered?

Apparently we should anticipate 7800 points initially, maybe even 7905 points!

It looks like interesting times ahead.

SUCCESS above means both FAST & SLOW targets were met. ‘CESS means just the FAST target met and probably the next time it is exceeded, movement to the SLOW target shall commence.

Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
