Trends and Targets for 22/06/2018

FTSE for FRIDAY (FTSE:UK) This week has been pretty grotty on the markets and it appears the anguish is going to continue. What’s surprising us a little was we’d expected some sort of slump by mid July but things appear to be kicking off early. Perhaps it’s just politicians inflicting maximum damage prior to their holidays!

The current situation is a little unpleasant with the suggestion continued weakness on the FTSE below 7539 shall provoke travel downhill toward an initial 7479 points. Worse, if such a level breaks, our secondary (and bounce point hopefully) calculates at 7427 points. The big question, of course, is whether the market shall prove capable of yet another day with 120 point volatility? If the immediate drop triggers, stop can be emplaced at 7640 points.

Rather more scary – and probably due to be covered in our Sunday evening analysis – is a contention of 7360 actually providing a magnetic influence on the market at present, something which doubtless shall make any near term bounces underperform.

What happens if the market somehow makes its way above 7640, given the FTSE closed on Thursday at 7556 points. Above 7640 allows for an initial 7681 points. If exceeded, secondary calculates at a rather less likely 7725 points. If triggered, stop can be 7620 at tightest. Normally we’d cheerfully suggest “wider is better” but given the ruling influence is seen as being 7360, we’d not be doing anyone a favour with a massive stop loss against a LONG position we suspect shall fail.

The reason?

We’ll stop talking about a bottom of 7360 but only if the FTSE somehow betters 7750 points.

Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
