Debenhams & a Bitcoin comment (LSE:DEB) Sometimes, it feels like “moth to flame” provides a valid description regarding Bitcoin but the reality hinges on emails received. And the most common one currently relates to our grotty target around 5,400 from a few months ago.
The question being asked; do we still think it shall bounce if it hits 5,400?
It almost must as any movement below 5414 allows for the value of the concept to more than half, trashing the uptrend since May of last year.
Debenhams, on the other hand, is a different kettle of rotting fish.
The share price has a last ditch bottom at 16p, a number it cannot afford close below (from our perspective) as we cannot calculate anything lower. Quite literally, this takes it into the Woolworth, Yell, Gulf Keystone, POG zone of misery and will require an entire textbook full of miracles to escape.
Sometimes there’s a chance of a bounce at these logical “ultimate” bottoms and we generally hope for a donk against the immediate downtrend, rather than think unrealistic thoughts. In the case of Debenhams, movement to 21.5p looks like the strongest possible case if trying a near term punt. If the price has actually bottomed, we require the share to close a session above 24.5p. Such a scenario moves the share price into a region where continued recovery to 32p looks possible. If exceeded, secondary is 42p along with the threat of real miracles taking place.
More than ever, this lot are at the “fingers crossed” point.
