Happy Days for IQE PLC (LSE:IQE), trading around 32p presently

By many standards, a read through of IQE’s “About Us” strongly suggests you’re swatting up on a company whose time has come. Established back in 1988, they’re now involved at the cutting edge of many areas, whether it’s communication, vehicle navigation, electrification, or buzzword prostitution in the fields of AI and Datacentres. To be generous, their website people have not entirely fallen into the well of gibberish terminology, despite a plethora of opportunity.

We’ve received a few emails, asking our thoughts on this share, suggesting there may be some gossip and expectation doing the rounds in the real world. Hopefully, any optimism is based on facts as the share price isn’t exactly residing in a happy place at present.

There has been a superb uptrend this year, since the days when the share price languished around 4.75p and experienced a cracking ride up to the 72p level. Unfortunately, as part of such a journey, our software demanded the share price CLOSE a session above 66p, an ambition which remains sadly lacking.

Currently, we’re not exactly oozing optimism due to the share price closing a session below the immediate Red Uptrend for 2026. We’ve painted a little circle around the problem on the chart below, one which implies IQE share price needs CLOSE above 34p to signal the need to rush out and buy a party popper. Or two! With the share price presently trading at just 32.65p, very little work is required to give some hope for the future.

At this point, we run into an experiment we’re running. Every now and then, we’ve been messing around with ChatGPT in the hope of improving our presentation and last Friday threw up an interesting result from the supposed AI (We know it’s just text lookup but what the heck…). On Friday, ChatGPT proved quite flattering, suggesting we don’t change a word but improve the layout of our article, allowing readers to jump beyond our brilliant sense of humour and just focus on the boring numbers given.

To be completely honest, it rather firmly said to keep our Whisky and Crunchies joke, claiming it added uniquely English humour to an article covering a quite dry topic, the FTSE. In addition, we kinda liked the “skip the boring” potentials as it’s something we’re guilty of doing with things which are obviously clickbait, either (increasingly) nonsense articles from the Independent, rubbish articles from the Guardian, or the odd YouTube video which promises a lot and experience has taught will deliver nothing. YouTube should publish a “Rule One”, jump beyond any video which says ‘Watch to the End’ or ‘You Will Not Believe What Happens After…’

Our Negative IQE View

Now below 32.5p risks triggering reversal down to an initial 30.9p with our longer term secondary, if broken, calculating down at 21.3p and a probable bounce level. The visuals certainly tick the boxes for such a scenario but we’re curious as to what has piqued our correspondents interest. Sometimes punters know a thing or two.

Our Positive IQE View

At present, our elastic measuring tape suggests the hope of movement above 38p triggering gains to an initial 50.5p.  This does make some sense, as does our secondary if such an ambition is exceeded, which works out at 66p. For the long term, closure above 66p remains absolutely critical, taking the share price into a zone where a Big Picture cycle to a future 94p should allegedly commence.

And in Summary?

Our conclusion is a little vague but one of the folk who got in touch has a reasonable track record. As a result, we’re inclined to take her optimism seriously but still would suggest playing safe and keeping an eye on our 38p trigger level. While we always prefer caution, the concept is preferable to spouting potentials which risk having investors “walk” funny.

And Finally;

We’d expected to be away for a couple of days this week. It will be next week for our family get together, due to a (seriously funny) error by a teenage niece who’s managed to become a complicated illegal alien in a European country. There are passport control officers throughout Europe who’re glad she’s not their daughter.

SUCCESS above means both FAST & SLOW targets were met. ‘CESS means just the FAST target met and probably the next time it is exceeded, movement to the SLOW target shall commence.

Hopefully, this will mean you no longer need to flip back through previous reports. HYPERLINKS DISABLED IN THIS VERSION

Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
