Our Internationally famous FTSE for FRIDAY (FTSE:UKX)

The only thing we hate more than the FTSE, currently, is our fabulous new dentist. I shall never understand why some people pay other people to inflict pain, when the dental profession has an entire battalion of folk lurking and ready to shatter any illusion of calm. On this visit, it was the dental nurse who spruced the session upward. As it was Thursday, invariably she was talking about her plans for the weekend. A bunch of her pals were coming round for a dolly party. Myself and the dentist exchanged a look, our minds struggling with the notion of a bunch of teenage girls playing with dolls. Then the girl added a crucial detail, she’d all Dolly Partons hits on a Karaoke machine. Suddenly, it all made sense, especially her comment about dressing up to look like dolly. To be honest, she’ll probably have a better time than our “Baku” party as while the race is usually memorable, any attempt at producing Azerbaijani food is destined to failure. This race is scheduled for Saturday, thanks to a clash with an important national day on the Sunday, creating a situation where friends visiting shall doubtless stay overnight. Hopefully we can finish off last years bottles of wine… An important lesson, when wine tastes great after fermentation, drink it. Do not wait a year for it to mature as, in our experience, the results were poured away. But if it’s still a bit fruity or sweet, bottle it and wait. The results after some time to mature have proven quite impressive.

As for the FTSE, we’ve been fruitlessly hoping all the grown ups returning from holiday would be sufficient to goose the index into life. Instead, the markets overall have been proving fairly placid (ignoring the Nasdaq as it’s disproportionately weighted by just 5 shares) and we suspect wars & politics are exerting a stifling effect, simply because no-one seems to know what’s really going on. We’ve a strong suspicion oil prices and supply are about to throw a spanner in the works.

Currently, movement below 10,650 risks promoting reversal to an initial 10,480 points on the FTSE. Our secondary, if broken, calculates at 10,415 points and “hopefully” a market bottom. Unfortunately, there’s a major problem with these innocent little drops as they target the market into a zone, where we can project 9,450 points as a third level target. If triggered, the tightest stop is at 10,700 points. There’s also a “risk” the market shall rebound at 10,530, this representing a new target frame being used on the FTSE.

However, we’ve our usual alternate scenario, this time a positive view. Above 10,770 could potentially trigger tame movement to an initial 10,790 points with our secondary, if bettered, at 10,870. If the market intends continue wandering in circles, this positive scenario feels likely.

Have a good weekend and enjoy the Grand Prix.

SUCCESS above means both FAST & SLOW targets were met. ‘CESS means just the FAST target met and probably the next time it is exceeded, movement to the SLOW target shall commence.

Our commentary is in two sections. Immediately below are today’s updated comments. If our commentary remains valid, the share can be found in the bottom section which has a RED heading. Hopefully, this will mean you no longer need to flip back through previous reports. HYPERLINKS DISABLED IN THIS VERSION

Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
