FTSE for FRIDAY (FTSE:UKX), trading around 10,519 at time of writing.

Most houses have the “goto” person, who’s called with a problem wasp, bee, spider (especially spiders), or once even a tiny little bat. Routinely, a pint glass and a bit of hard cardboard, reside on a bookshelf, ready to spring into action to trap whatever is terrorising my wife, daughter, or grand-daughters. Despite always explaining the savage insect is more scared of them, doing the hero walk out the patio doors with a captive spider is always quite pleasing. A few moments ago, karma went full circle, a big brown moth trying to break the sound barrier while indulging in crazy flying through the office, a one point managing to flap under my reading glasses.

So, like all macho here types, I ran hysterically from the office, slamming the door and turning to face my wife. In a fair world, she’d have gone into the office and caught the big brown manic moth. Instead, she opened the door a crack and emptied the best part of a can of fly spray into it. After an hour or so, entering the office revealed a very dead moth on my office seat, along with the foul residual scent of insect killer. Apparently, should any sarcasm be used in the future about spiders, the subject of this moth shall surface…

To be blunt, the above tale is more interesting that the FTSE. It’s been interesting to note the eventual frustration of analysts throughout the USA and Europe, the penny finally dropping nothing has been happening since April. However, there are now signs some confidence is entering the market place with many shares starting to display a “slightly” elevated heartbeat. Perhaps, the the temperature, the market is finally about to head up and do something useful. Though, to be fair, driving with the dashboard claiming 31c, the roof down, and air-con at full blast, the experience was a little bit decadent. But great, especially as the Magnum ice cream didn’t melt. It reminded of a similar day, driving off the Glenelg ferry to Skye in a rare TVR S3000 2+2 hardtop, turning on the air-con and realising the white stuff pouring out the vents was snow. Eventually the snow stopped and the TVR settled down to issue cool air. We obviously lost the exhaust system shortly afterward, the single track road proving (once again) beyond TVR’s design capability. In fact Skye was to eventually eat TWO exhaust systems from my addiction to a dreadful make of car.

As for the market, it’s apparently the case where we should anticipate movement above 10576 should trigger market recovery to an initial 10,696 points. Our secondary for the longer term (ie; next week) 10,882 points. This is assuming the market behaves according to our rules, a scenario which presents a stop loss level at 10383 points, wide but a reasonable risk/reward calculation.

If things intend go horribly wrong, below 10383 risks promoting trouble, calculating with an initial 10266 points with our secondary, if broken, at 10104 points.

Have a good weekend, the Austrian Grand Prix usually capable of a good race. But Austrian cuisine can be a little difficult!

SUCCESS above means both FAST & SLOW targets were met. ‘CESS means just the FAST target met and probably the next time it is exceeded, movement to the SLOW target shall commence.

Our commentary is in two sections. Immediately below are today’s updated comments. If our commentary remains valid, the share can be found in the bottom section which has a RED heading. Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
