NATWEST GROUP PLC (LSE:NWG) trading around 642.60 at time of writing.

With another Formula1 weekend over, the inevitable scores were Qualifying 10 – Race 2. It rained on Saturday during qualifying, making the session genuinely entertaining whereas the race itself was a bit boring. This was especially true, the wizards directing the camera’s deciding viewers would be more interested in the lead cars procession, rather than any of the actual sport taking place in the midfield. However, it still didn’t come close to the day when a Race Director decided the entire audience wanted to watch Michael Schumacher leading the Austrian Grand Prix for around 20 laps.  It may have been more but a sound sleep ensured the race end was missed…

We distrust the current reversal cycle, given it was kicked off by a nasty piece of market manipulation (gap) on October 1st. The share price was moved downward at the market open from 688p to 679p. This broke the immediate uptrend (circled) and effectively forced the current unpleasantness. Visually there is certainly hope for a rebound at the current price level, given the prior visit to 640 in July this year.

Natwest hasn’t entirely forgotten it’s in a race for growth but the share price is currently showing some signs of reticence. From a Big Picture perspective, it seems weakness now below 633p risks triggering reversal to an initial 613p with our secondary, if broken, at 577p (hopefully a solid bounce before such a level).

Our alternate scenario, if things turn surprisingly positive, suggests above 655p should be worth paying attention to, capable of triggering share price recovery to an initial 700p with our secondary, if beaten, an eventual 738p. If insisting on playing safe, waiting until the share price exceeds 660p may prove to be the path of wisdom, a price exceeding the level of a prior trend break rarely sending false optimism.

More importantly, we’ve now two weeks worth of patience until the US Grand Prix, probably going to be renamed the Donald Trump Peace Prize Race or something equally ridiculous. After all, the guy has trashed the world economy, so perhaps he will have a go at crashing a race…

SUCCESS above means both FAST & SLOW targets were met. ‘CESS means just the FAST target met and probably the next time it is exceeded, movement to the SLOW target shall commence.

Our commentary is in two sections. Immediately below are today’s updated comments. If our commentary remains valid, the share can be found in the bottom section which has a RED heading. Hopefully, this will mean you no longer need to flip back through previous reports. HYPERLINKS DISABLED IN THIS VERSION

Please remember, all prices are mid-price (halfway between the Buy and Sell). When we refer to a price CLOSING above a specific level, we are viewing the point where we can regard a trend as changing. Otherwise, we are simply speculating on near term trading targets. Our website is www.trendsandtargets.com.

UPDATE. We often give an initial and a secondary price. If the initial is exceeded, we still expect it to fall back but the next time the initial is bettered, the price should continue to the secondary. The converse it true with price drops.
