Thursday proved to be a day of chaos, mostly caused by people more interested in believing their own nonsense, along with stupidity from the UK media! Our problems started with a TXT message from our energy supplier, warning of the risk of power cuts due to impending strong winds. Glancing at the weather .APP on the phone gave a further apocalyptic warning of YELLOW rain making driving dangerous. Unfortunately, as someone with an important dental appointment on the mainland, the journey was now looking quite spicy and the option of taking the passenger ferry was ruled out for the day. But heading to the car ferry had its own set of problems, the route liable to be overwhelmed with traffic. In poor weather, the passenger ferry is immediately cancelled\u00a0 and generally the ferry company makes no provision for displaced passengers. After all, if the passenger ferry isn’t running, there are no passengers to care about. At least if the car ferry goes off, you can nap in a dry car or head to a hotel, should the climate show no promise of improvement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Long story short, leaving the house as early as possible ensured ‘accidentally’ arriving an hour early for the dental appointment, a 5 minute exercise to adjust the fitting of a bridge. The wonderful dentist obliged, doing a quick bit of wizardry and kicked me out. And so, returning to Argyll on the 3pm car ferry, I was able to press the magic button on the VW Eos and retract the hard top roof<\/b>. It was a brilliant Blue Sky afternoon, not a cloud anywhere, and the temperature was 12.6c. To be honest, opening the car roof was a matter of principle, probably designed to further inflame my fury at the folk who think delivering fear is the correct way to supply news or weather. And worse, for Argyll, they proved utterly wrong. <\/span><\/p>\n

Even sitting watching TV this evening, a couple of charity adverts further enforced our view of the idiocy driving the media. There was one for the British Heart Foundation designed to make the viewer fear imminent cardiac problems, another for a Cancer charity again designed to make the viewer believe “they could be next”. But better care can be delivered, if you’d just call this number. Perhaps folk need reminded of the Aesop fable about the Boy who cried Wolf. <\/span> This shows how liars are rewarded: because even if they start telling the truth, no one believes them. This, unfortunately, is already the case with most printed media, along with broadcast news. Except for the Financial Times, still the UK’s mostly reliable news source.<\/p>\n

As for the FTSE, it also seems to be still working on the basis a calamity is due. It’s slightly amusing to note the forces affecting oil prices changed last weekend, a group called The Houthis taking a turn to provide some further excuse for price disruption. Obviously, things are a bit confusing now but we shall not be surprised if the USA does something this coming weekend, perhaps an effort to reduce oil prices due to mid-term elections coming up in a few weeks?<\/span><\/p>\n

From a fairly near term perspective, the FTSE has some reversal potentials. Currently, below 10659 threatens to trigger reversal down to an initial 10556 with our secondary, if broken, at 10445 points. We are now being reminded by our software this secondary risks being too ambitious as a bounce around 10495 is allegedly possible. Visually such a number makes little sense but this scenario has a reasonable overall Stop Loss figure at 10710 points.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the event the stock market intends follow the lessons given by “Storm Austen” and instead provide a great day, our inclination is to regard movement above 10775 points as capable of triggering a rise to an initial 10871 points with our secondary, if beaten, at 10933 points. This, once again, would take the UK index into a zone where closure above 10908 points again becomes possible, potentially triggering a great end to the year… We can hope.<\/span><\/p>\n
