The father (Russel Crow) didn’t approve of the fruit on his thrown, pushing the largest bit of watermelon onto the lawn. The small bit, he guarded, encircling it with its wings while it was methodically excavated. The female (Cheryl Crow) led the three small birds in destroying the big bit and within a few hours, there was not a single bit of the red watermelon flesh remaining, just the inedible hard shells. Once Russel Crow finished with his smaller section, it was also pushed onto the grass. Meanwhile, the robot mower was patrolling the lawn and I’ll admit to mild curiosity as to what would happen when it met the watermelon remnants.

Monday continued, it becoming clear I should take advantage of the lack of rain by strimming the edges of the lawn, something a robot mower cannot – unfortunately – do. It transpires the biggest enemy of a robots perimeter wire is this small, fat, Scotsman with a strimmer. At one point, the mower reversed from its garage/charging station, executed a series of tight circles, then turned itself off. The flashing lights told me it couldn’t identify a perimeter, a clear sign of a break, a disaster usually caused by the robot digging its own cable up and eating it. But from the point where the thing has stopped, a cable break was impossible, the only other likely culprit being myself and the strimmer. A slow walk around the lawns edges revealed the cut, each severed end soldered together and heat shrink tube sealing the evidence. Relieved to once again know where it was, the robot kicked into life and started its slow patrol, while I dug a new trench to embed the cable in the soil.

After a few minutes, the lawnmower ran into my right wellington clad foot, bouncing off rather than try and draw blood. I lifted it back to the charging station, wondering if it was fully charged. It reversed out, once again ready to patrol the lawn and I returned to my trenching job. Within minutes, the robot tried to crash into me. Deciding it simply didn’t want to coexist on the lawn, I left it to its own devices but only after dinner did I notice the robot had steered clear of both halves of watermelon. In fact, each piece resided on a patch of uncut grass, so assiduously had the machine avoided them. Yet it ran into me TWICE in the space of roughly 20 minutes. It’s clearly a Scottish Robot. A few weeks ago, it avoided a football. Now, it has avoided fruit and I suspect if a lettuce is placed on the lawn, it shall also avoid it. But a slice of bacon, dropped anywhere, will probably be targeted by the voracious robot with a Scottish disregard for healthy choices.

Obviously, the foregoing neatly brings us to Diageo, a leading booze manufacturer who, according to authorities in India, has been avoiding admitting how they actually make alcohol. One of the accusations relates to whisky, apparently matured for 10 years in American casks. Instead, it is believed Diageo are avoiding the inconvenience of maturing their top selling brand Indian brand. Instead, it is alleged they are making clear alcohol and adding flavourings, producing the top selling Indian Whisky and Rum by nefarious means!

It sounds ridiculous except for an important detail, the sneaky Finnish cheap booze called Kilju (Kill You). In the wine making fraternity, this stupidly cheap Sugar Wine is thought of as being a student dorm room method to get drunk. The end product is allegedly palatable and done properly, within 5 days it is possible to produce something just over 20 proof. The method is simple, 6kg sugar, 21 litres of water, and yeast. The water should be around 28c and everything left alone for 5 days or longer. Longer is apparently better, the heavy bits falling to the bottom of whatever container was used. Eventually a clear liquid can be siphoned out, though some purists attempt to ferment the product twice. This is where Diageo come in, the allegations being they are adding flavourings to the clear liquid to produce product marketed as Whisky or Rum. From our internet wine maker gossip, some quite solid suspicions have emerged about what Diageo may be up to, very effectively cutting production costs for product.. Time will tell. One of our chatroom pals, based in New Zealand, claims she can make Dark Rum in just 7 days, production costing very little per litre.

If Diageo have come up with a quick and cheap method to make palatable booze, we lift our hat to them but harbour a suspicion the market may not be entirely happy. Should their “brewing” scandal from India damage their reputation, things may turn nasty for the share price but realistically, it’s unlikely governments shall care while they’re successfully extracting taxes, duty, tariffs, from production. However, the markets invariably love to discover an excuse to plunge the knife, so we think some care may be needed with Diageo in the months ahead.

This being the case, below 1,370 should ring alarm bells, triggering weakness toward an initial calculation of 1,252p. If broken, our secondary works out at a quite silly “bottom” of just 300p, matching the share price from the 20th century!

Alternately – and visually more believable – above 1,428 should trigger movement to an initial 2,143 with our secondary, if bettered, at 2,420p. There are obviously potentials above such a level but common sense demands we should once again stir the tea leaves. Hopefully, the scandal from India proves to be a Trading Standards fizzle which shall vanish, once the company pays some sort of absurd ransom (or fine) to keep everything quiet.

In summary, we suspect Diageo may be worth watching, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.

.<span style="color: #000000; font-family:
